For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
— Ephesians 2: 10
Hi, I’m Lori and I’m excited to launch this website as a way to share God’s goodness with you through my words and experiences.
I was born and reared along with my two older brothers in Arlington, Virginia by my loving parents. We lived in a welcoming all-Black community that showed genuine neighborly concern and love. Being the youngest and only girl in my family, folks figured me to be sheltered and spoiled. I am neither. Having parents from the segregated South, they knew better. Mom and Dad never shielded us from the injustice Blacks encountered in America. As such, my curiosity, cultural consciousness, and love for my lineage developed early. This foundation helped establish the trajectory of my life.
Like my father, I attended North Carolina Central University, but with intentions of studying law. However, life happened and a series of unexpected circumstances eventually landed me in a classroom of another sort. I served as a public school teacher of students with special needs for five years. I have since committed the rest of my tenure in public education as a school counselor, devoting my entire career advocating for those marginalized by the mainstream.
Personally, I have come to discover sharing of the goodness of God through writing to be the air I breathe. It is a passion I eagerly awaken to each morning and securely store away at night. I also enjoy reading, learning, and spending time with those whom I treasure. My greatest treasure is available to all: Jesus Christ. Accepting Jesus as my Savior at the age of eight is the single best decision I have ever made. Choosing daily to make him Lord of my life is the cost of discipleship.
Then he said to them all:
“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”
— Luke 9:23
